As of January of 2021 one full year after legalization and more than $1B in medical & adult cannabis revenue has been collected. We still have no black or brown ownership. We urge our lawmakers AND the administration to be swift, fair, and equitable.

Hold fair lotteries now, move this program forward, and issue licenses for ALL the cannabis licenses for the current round.

We urge unity, cooperation, and accuracy in messaging.

Lawmakers cast their votes that affect our lives, our businesses, and our jobs every day.

They must have the best information possible to be most effective.

Your Words matter.

the facts are important.

Write to Your Alderman

Aldermen in the City of Chicago have a unique opportunity to assist adult-use dispensary applicants in their quest to achieve social equity in Chicago. You can always send your Alderman a letter and help them realize how they can review and change city zoning and cannabis.

We were very proud and supportive of the Illinois Black Caucus who introduced and passed 4 pillars of sweeping legislation aimed at addressing systemic racism:

I. Criminal justice reform, violence reduction, and police accountability

II. Education and workforce development

III. Economic access, equity, and opportunity

IV. Health care and human services

Also introduced and passed was language that created a Cannabis Equity Commission.  You may remember that we advocated for this in 2018 and 2019.  We’re happy to see it become law and look forward to assisting to implement it.

"It will take each of us to confront the injustices that continue to perpetuate a broken system that has taken countless Black Americans' lives. It will take a people of every, race, creed, and gender identity to speak up and to act. Now is the time to have those uncomfortable conversations about racism with family, friends, and neighbors. It's time to have honest discussions about our country's dark history of discrimination and confront the fact that structural racism lives on in our policies and everyday life. And it's time for all of us-not just some-to speak out against racism"

Kamala Harris
