Illinois Becomes the First State to Legislatively Legalize Cannabis!

Although technically Illinois is the 11th state to pass an adult-use cannabis law, we are the 1st state to do so without ballot referendum and with social equity provisions for disproportionately impacted residents included.

Chicago NORML had a front row seat at the historic bill signing and even got a shout-out from the podium!

 
 

2019 has been an unprecedented year for the passage of state-level marijuana law reforms and when we zoom out, it’s remarkable to reflect upon what we have accomplished at NORML.

Chicago NORML Collaborates with CannaHealth Digital Magazine to produce Chicago’s First Chicago Cannabis Health & Wellness Fair on the City’s South side!

The fair offered informative panels and and workshops presented by cannabis industry experts on a wide variety topics to address the physical, mental and financial health of the community.  Look for information on the medical marijuana program, replacing opioids with cannabis, cooking with cannabis, cannabis business & investing, and pain & PTSD, CBD & Hemp and more! Weed whacked

If Illinois legalizes recreational cannabis, David Tello plans to come home. Until he decides whether to return to his wife and two children in Peoria, Illinois, in May, he's staying in California, where he's helping his brother relaunch their cannabis company in that state's new recreational market.

Chicago NORML's Donte Townsend on the Legalization of Cannabis in Illinois

Donte Townsend is the communications director for Chicago NORML, a regional chapter of the NORML Foundation that specifically strives to educate and motivate communities of color to destigmatize and accept the cannabis plant as a vehicle for health, wellness, political and economic empowerment.

Just in time to celebrate our 1st anniversary, our members took the Hill by storm and attended NORML's National Conference and Lobby Day.  They participated in panel discussions and met with lawmakers to expand and inform discussions about cannabis legalization and equity programs.
